The Institute works towards enhancing the capacity and outcome of the Independent Human Rights Commission in Palestine.

We work with the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights, a key actor in the Palestinian human rights system, and by providing technical support and facilitating collaboration between other actors, we contribute to sustaining an essential human rights actor in the Palestinian system.

Why?

Palestine has ratified several treaties and protocols under the United Nations Treaty Body and proven its commitment towards international human rights obligations.

As the Palestinian territories are occupied and geographically detached there is a variety of duty bearers which makes it difficult to operate in the human rights system. The Independent Commission for Human Rights is a strong actor and key player in the system, proving potential for change.

Our objective

We engage with the Independent Commission for Human Rights to provide technical support and motivate collaborative and effective human rights change.

How we work

The Institute has been present in Palestine since 2017.

We provide technical support to our partner and support them in performing their mandate as an independent human rights institution.

Furthermore, we support and encourage engagement with UN human rights system as well as regional systems. Through this process, our partner builds infrastructure and capacity to monitor and report on the human rights situation in their country and they get high-quality feedback and guidance on how to improve.
