Equal Treatment

The department works to fulfill the functions and tasks assigned to the Danish Institute for Human Rights by virtue of its role as a national agency for equality issues.

The department works for equality issues in respect of race, ethnic origin and gender, and also monitors, promotes and oversees the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

As part of its mandate, the department provides assistance to potential victims of discrimination. It also conducts a range of independent surveys and projects on a range of social issues and in a variety of sectors to promote equal treatment. These independent surveys provide a starting point for specific recommendations to the Danish parliament and government as well as to other relevant stakeholders. The recommendations identify ways in which society can best prevent discrimination and ensure equal treatment.

As well as providing a basis for recommendations, the department's equal treatment project are intended to raise awareness of discrimination and of the risk of being discriminatory. It also develops methods and models to promote the development of diverse organisations (such as places of work and educational institutions) where there are equal opportunities for all.
