The Nordic Business Network for Human Rights (NBNHR) is a professional network for global companies, who work with human rights impacts in their organisations or supply chains. As of 2017, the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) has taken on the role of secretariat and moderator for the network.

Purpose

As secretariat and moderator, DIHR will be contributing to the network with expertise, professional guidance and management. DIHR generally views the private sector as an important actor with regards to human rights. As part of its legal mandate, the Institute is mandated to engage with private actors and assist them in avoiding and addressing negative human rights impacts.
NBNHR has an overall focus on capacity building within the member companies and makes use of both human rights experts and as peer-to-peer learning in the process.

The network meetings are confidential and creates a space where the companies can obtain the newest knowledge about business and human rights as well as share difficult dilemmas with experts and peers. An important objective for the network is to develop feasible translations and applications of the various human rights frameworks to concrete business contexts. Ultimately, the network aims to enable improved human rights performance by its members.

The network is capped at 20 member companies. Current members are: Arla, BioMar, Danfoss, Hempel, Inter IKEA Group, Lego Group, Neste, Norsk Hydro, Novo Nordisk, Pandora, Statkraft, Vestas Wind Systems, Volvo Group, Yara, Tetra Pak, Fazer Group, Grundfos, Ørsted, Coop Denmark and Bestseller.
