Human rights education

The knowledge and skills to claim own rights and to respect and uphold the rights of others are fundamental to human rights realisation. We work to strengthen human rights education in Denmark and internationally to create a universal culture of human rights.

How we work

Pushing for national policies

Both in Denmark and internationally we work strategically with state and non-state actors to incorporate human rights education in education policies and programmes. This includes both formal and non-formal education systems and in primary schools as well as in the education of teachers, police officers, health care practitioners etc.

Learning and training with effect

Through our online learning hub, we continuously develop and provide free state-of-the-art learning materials accessible in 6 languages and we apply tools to document the learning effect. Based on many years of experience, we provide technical assistance and training for practitioners in development agencies, state institutions and civil society organisations on human rights, including how to apply a human rights-based approach to the implementation of the SDGs. Visit the learning hub here.

Agenda-setting on human rights education

We influence UN- and development agencies, NHRIs and education actors to strengthen the normative framework for human rights education. We do so through policy dialogues, by showcasing best practice, and by strengthening global data collection on human rights education.
