Webinar: 'Human rights, livelihood and dignity of small-scale fishers’
In this webinar we will showcase how the livelihood and dignity of small-scale fishers is a human rights concern, through case stories from several different countries. We will discuss how human rights standards and mechanisms can be used in practice to address livelihood issues in fishing communities, and improve their dignity and standard of living. We will identify actions needed, and explore how the 2030 Agenda can serve as leverage for human rights-based governance of the small-scale fisheries sector.
Relevant speakers will share insights on the following key questions:
- How can human rights standards help to safeguard the livelihoods and dignity of small-scale fishers?
- What are the human rights impact of fisheries policies, and what measures are needed to protect the livelihood and dignity of small-scale fishers?
- What can be the role of national human rights institutions in promoting and protecting human rights of small-scale fishers?
The webinar is part of the event series ‘SSF Open House – World Oceans Week 2021´ taking place from June 2-8 2021 organised by Too Big To Ignore, and also the celebration of the United Nations World Oceans Day on 8 June.
