The Danish Institute for Human Rights has recently signed a 2-year collaboration agreement to continue the engagement with the aluminium company Norsk Hydro ASA.

The collaboration between DIHR and Hydro started in 2011, and has included several activities, often resulting in public outputs shared externally by both organizations.

In 2019, the Institute performed a routine evaluation of its partnership with Hydro, which provided an opportunity to review the collaboration and examine respective priorities going forward.

About Norsk Hydro ASA

Hydro is a fully integrated aluminium company with 35,000 employees in 40 countries on all continents. The Danish Institute for Human Rights provides support to Hydro on upstream and downstream value chain management and managing key risks and issues in core operations.

Strengthening human rights throughout the value chain

The review identified ways of improving the collaboration and benefits from specific tasks. Examples include the development of the 2012 action plan on human rights, the 2017 Human Rights Impact Mapping and a country risk mapping for integrity risk management in procurement processes. On this basis, both sides are committed to continue the partnership, to open and regular communication and to continue embedding and strengthening respect for human rights within Hydro.

For the years 2020-2021 we are improving our ongoing communications and collaboration. The Institute will continue to support Hydro in the ongoing efforts for human rights due diligence across their operations and business relationships.
