Key competencies

European human rights, family and human rights, national human rights systems, interaction between international, regional and domestic human rights systems

Expertise

My research focuses on international and regional systems of protection of human rights, the European Convention and Court of human rights, family law and freedom of religion. More recently, I am particularly interested in issues pertaining to state human rights obligations and to how international, regional and domestic human rights systems and actors work and interacts with each other.

Selected projects

  • How do we navigate the complexity and shortfalls of the real-life functioning of human rights state actors? The project offers a conceptual and methodological baseline in order to analyse the mandate, role and effectiveness of human rights state actors as well as their interactions at domestic level and with international and regional human rights mechanisms.
  • This project looks at the role played by Academia and researchers in the national human rights system.
  • The Arab Master Programme on Democracy and Human Rights aims at educating the next generation of experts, academics and practitioners and give them the practical experience needed for building up their professional career and academic activities within the fields of democracy and human rights in the MENA region.
