Coorporation in relation to the child in public care

How local administrations can support the child’s right to family life.

Through qualitative and quantitative research methods this research project explores how local municipal authorities support parents of children in public care.

The project includes survey and data analyses of the effects and impact of support programmes aimed at parents and children in care. The study explores, among other things, statistical links between support programmes to parents of children in care with frequency of use of force, lenght of placements, and break down of placements.

By interviewing both parents of children in care, and young people who recently experienced being in care, the project further analyses the two groups’ experiences of specific support measures or lack of such measures.

The study aims to identify ways and means to strengthen cooperation with parents when it is in the child’s best interest. The results of the study will be published in academic articles as well as professional publications targeting practitioners.
