We collaborated with L’Oréal, the world’s largest cosmetics company, to support the mainstreaming of human rights in the Group’s operations.

Between January 2019 and November 2022, the Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) collaborated with L’Oréal, the world’s largest cosmetics company, to support the mainstreaming of human rights in the Group’s operations.

Under this partnership, the Institute supported L’Oréal in further developing a mainstreamed approach to managing human rights throughout the Group’s operations. In 2019, joint activities focused on:

  • A human rights gap analysis including: review of policies, interviews with key functions, a presentation of findings to the Human Rights Committee, and production of a findings report;
  • Input to L’Oréal’s global Employee Human Rights Policy s (launched in Q1 2020); and
  • Follow-up recommendations and guidance on various human rights related questions raised during the gap analysis.

Between 2020 and 2022,  the Institute supported L’Oréal in carrying out a Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) in its bergamot supply chain in Italy. Lessons drawn from the assessment informed the wider approach to human rights due diligence vis-à-vis the Group’s supply chains.
