Capacity-building on business and human rights for NHRIs

The Danish Institute for Human Rights is supporting capacity-building of National Human Rights Institutions in the area of business and human rights.

Purpose

Together with the Global Alliance of NHRIs (GANHRI, former ICC – International Coordinating Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights), The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) has developed a guidebook and an e-learning for NHRIs on business and human rights.

The Guidebook was published in November 2013 and is available in Arabic, English, French and Spanish via the links in the right-hand column of this page.

This project has been running since 2013. Within The NHRI·EU Capacity Project the blended learning programme will be carried out in the four NHRI world regions in 2017.

This Guidebook is accompanied by an e-learning which provides an introduction to the field of business and human rights and explores the particular role of national human rights institutions. The e-learning is available in Arabic, English, Russian and Spanish via the links in the right-hand column of this page.

The e-learning can be accessed by learners independently, or be taken as part of a facilitated blended learning course that combines a four-week e-learning with a face-to-face training course.

These learning tools provide guidance and resources for NHRIs on the business and human rights field, including examples of how NHRIs can use their Paris Principles mandate to engage on business and human rights issues.

The difference we make

DIHR has facilitated institutional capacity-building activities for a number of individual NHRIs, including the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, the Zambia Human Rights Commission, the Niger Human Rights Commission and the National Human Rights Commission of Myanmar.
