Status and Perspectives on mandatory human rights due diligence in the Nordics

This output paper captures main take aways from a March 25th 2021 event on the state of play around mandatory human rights due diligence in the Nordics.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, DanChurchAid, Danish Institute of Human Rights and the Nordic Business Network for Human Rights on March 25 2021 organised an event that took stock and allowed exchange of perspectives on Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence Legislation in the Nordics.

The discussion on mandatory human rights due diligence as a central part of the ‘smart mix’ required to foster respect for human rights by business has continued to gain momentum across Europe. Nordic countries have traditionally been regarded as frontrunners in responsible business conduct developments, adopting National Actions Plans on business and human rights already in 2014-2015. The event included stakeholder views on the state of play and the direction ahead in the four countries across state, business and civil society representatives.
