Eni Cabinda North Project – human rights assessment

A human rights assessment conducted for the Eni Angola Cabinda North Project.

This summary report presents key findings and recommendations of a human rights assessment (HRA) conducted for the Eni Angola Cabinda North Project in December 2018 by the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

The assessment was carried out in two main phases:

(1) initial desktop human rights risk scoping and research and (2) an in-country mission to collect primary data from relevant internal and external stakeholders. At the time of the assessment the project was in the early stages of the exploration phase.

Observations, recommendations and action plans

Observations were developed in four main areas: human rights in the workplace, human rights of local individuals and communities, human rights and security and human rights in business relationships.

To enable Eni to act on assessment findings DIHR developed a total of 41 recommendations split in four categories: (1) Project specific recommendations for Eni Angola related to the exploration phase; (2) Recommendations for Eni Headquarter; (3) Long-term general recommendations for Eni Angola; and (4) Long-term recommendations for Eni Angola in the case exploration is successful and Eni moves to the development phase.
