Council of Europe standards on human rights and technology

The Council of Europe has drafted conventions, declarations and recommendations on how to protect human rights in a digital age.

In 1981, the Council of Europe adopted the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data. The Convention was the first legally binding international instrument to protect the individual from misuse of personal data.

Since then, numerous declarations and recommendations on human rights and technology have followed.

We strive to make the pdf versions of our publications etc. accessible for screen readers. If you experience any problems, please contact Digital Editor Stine Juhl Nielsen on stni@humanrights.dk
