Kyrgyz Parliamentarian and partner of DIHR passed away

Mr. Erkinbek Alymbekov speaking at the Human Rights Committee of Parliament in Kyrgyzstan
Former MP and Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Parliament in Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Erkinbek Alymbekov has passed away at the age of 54.

As the Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Parliament Erkinbek Alymbekov and a member of the Human Rights Advisory Board (HRAB) in Kyrgyzstan, a long-term partner of the Danish Institute for Human Rights, Erkinbek Alymbekov spent much of his life working to promote and strengthen human rights in Kyrgyzstan. As Chairman for the Human Rights Committee of Parliament, Erkinbek Alymbekov initiated the first Governments Day in Parliament: A day dedicated to discussing the key human rights challenges of Kyrgyzstan.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) also benefitted from his vast experience working with human rights through his involvement with HRAB. As a member of HRAB, whose aim is to strengthen dialogue between state institutions and civil society organisations working on human rights, Erkinbek Alymbekov used his political level to promote the necessity of dialogue and cooperation when working with human rights. Through Erkinbek Alymbekov and the other members of the advisory board, HRAB managed to have state institutions and civil society organisations jointly identify key human rights challenges in Kyrgyzstan and to work together to develop concrete recommendations for how to respond to these challenges.

DIHR would like to express its sincere condolences to the family of Erikbek Alymbekov over the loss of him.
