The purpose of this research study of legal guardianship is to elucidate how guardianship is experienced and practiced in Denmark

Legal guardianship is a support measure where a person is appointed guardian in order to ensure the rights of an individual with a disability and to protect the individual against abuse.

The purpose of this research study of legal guardianship is to elucidate how guardianship is experienced and practiced in Denmark, and to assess whether legislation, procedures and practices around guardianship respect the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, especially Article 12 which entails the right to exercise one’s own will and make one’s own decisions.
