Kyrgyz Minister of Justice in Denmark

The Kyrgyz Minister of Justice and his delegation is visiting Denmark this week to study the legal institutions.

The new Kyrgyz Minister of Justice, Uran Akhmetov, and a delegation of employees from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice are visiting Denmark this week.

During their stay, the delegation will visit the Danish Ministry of Justice, the Police, the Danish Parliament and the General Prosecutor among others. The objective of the visit is to gaininsightintothe work, best practices and cooperation of the sister institutions in Denmark. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice is a partner of The Danish Institute for Human Rights.

The Director of The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) Jonas Christoffersen, welcomed the delegation: "I am happy to see you, and to see that you are staying on track with the work in the sphere of implementation of the human rights in Kyrgyzstan, and carrying on with our cooperation. I hope you will have a good week here, and meet some inspiring colleagues"

The Kyrgyz Minister of Justice, Uran Akhmetov, was also happy to visit Denmark: "We are glad to come here to see how our sister institutions work here. This kind of insight is very important for our country".

Facts:

In 2013, the Kyrgyz Republic signed a Financing Agreement with the European Union on the project “Promotion of the Rule of Law in the Kyrgyz Republic” in order to further strengthen the rule of law by promoting transparency, accountability and anti-corruption efforts in its legislative and judiciary. The objectives of the project are mainly to enhance the Capacity and Effectiveness of Oversight Mechanisms (component 1) and to promote the Judiciary and Legal Reform (component 2). It is in the frame of this project the Danish Institute for Human Rights works in close partnerships with the Ministry of Justice, as well as with the Ombudsman Institution, General Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial-Legal Issues and Regulations of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic (CCLP).
