Afro-Danes’ experience of discrimination in Denmark

Afro-Danes’ experience of discrimination in Denmark

The report addresses in particular whether Afro-Danes experience discrimination in their everyday lives.

The aim of the “Afro-Danes’ experience of discrimination in Denmark” report is to investigate whether – and if so, how – discrimination is experienced by the minority group in Denmark designated as ‘Afro-Danish’.

The term ‘Afro-Danish’ is a relatively new term, and in the present context it is used in the sense ‘Danish of African extraction’.

The report addresses in particular whether Afro-Danes experience discrimination in their everyday lives, e.g. at work, at school, at places of education, in public spaces, when out at night, shopping, or in interactions with the police. The study is based on 25 semi-structured individual interviews with Afro-Danes who were diverse with respect to gender, age, social circumstances, their African background and address. In addition, five background interviews were conducted with selected NGOs and other contributors to the public debate concerning their experiences of and work with discrimination against Afro-Danes.

Please note that the report is only available in Danish - but contains an English summary on page 7-9.
