Admisssions are now open for the 2024/2025 European Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation.

The Master

The European Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) is a unique Master’s that today involves the participation of 43 prestigious universities and human rights centres from all Member States of the European Union. The programme is an intensive one-year advanced master's course offering an outstanding mix of theory and practice and preparing students for careers in international organisations, field operations, governmental and non-governmental bodies and academia.

A joint European Master's programme

EMA is both a residential and an exchange programme: during the first semester students are taught in Venice (Italy), while for the second semester they move to one of the EMA participating universities located throughout Europe. Read more.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights partakes in the EMA Programme in collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark.

Academic requirements

Applicants are required to hold a university degree of a high standard in a field relevant to human rights, including disciplines in law, social sciences and the humanities, and must have a minimum of 180 ECTS (Bachelor/General Degree). Read more.

Deadline and information

 There are two deadlines.

  • First deadline: 12 February 2024
    • Open to Non-EU Candidates, EU Candidates, and all candidates who wish to be considered for financial assistance.
  • Second deadline: 16 April 2024
    • Open to EU candidates
    • Requests for financial assistance will not be considered in this call.
