Key Qualifications
Stéphanie Lagoutte has been doing research since 1995 within the fields of human rights, protection of family life and freedom of religion in a European context. She is a legal scholar originally specialized in criminal law and public law. She has focused her human rights work on the European Convention on human rights and the work of the European Court of human rights. She has delivered papers at conferences, produced articles and participated in several books both as author and editor.

Previously to her arrival in Denmark, Stéphanie Lagoutte has been working as teaching-assistant at the University of Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne and as research assistant for a French publishing house.

Working as a researcher at the Danish Institute for Human Rights, Stephanie Lagoutte has supervised and co-supervised Master and PhD students’ thesis. She has been the academic coordinator of the guest researchers’ programme of the Institute for many years. She has animated several seminars on methodological choices and challenges within the field of human rights research both in Denmark and abroad. In addition she is teaching frequently at universities, courses held by the Danish institute as well as seminars organised by partners in Denmark or abroad on a variety of human rights issues.

Stéphanie Lagoutte has developed work experience with scholars and researchers in West Africa through the academic coordination of the research partnership programme as well as through her involvement in international projects of the Danish Institute for Human Rights in Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali and Senegal. She has also participated as a consultant in various international projects of the Danish Institute for Human Rights (mostly in Iran and in Central and Eastern Europe).

Stéphanie Lagoutte has participated in the production of legal briefs on Danish legal matters as well as on topics related to the European Court of human rights. She also appears in Danish media on issues related to her research topics.

In 2012 Stephanie Lagoutte works with Margaret Jungk (UN Working Group on Business and Human rights) and makes analyses of state obligations and actions under the UN Framework and Guiding principles on Business and Human Rights.

3) Family and human rights: Protection of the family in international human rights instruments, family law in multicultural society, European Court of human rights’ jurisprudence on the protection of family life
