Primary occupation since graduation in 1979 has been research and teaching at university level  focused on the development in China. Concurrently I have been engaged in consultancy work, writing of text books and teaching material, and I have been active in NGO work on development and human rights.

For the last fifteen years I have been working as senior researcher and project manager at the Danish Institute for Human Rights, engaged primarily in research and project cooperation concerning China, besides pure research involving all kinds of academic activities like arranging seminars (in Asia/China and Denmark), editing books and papers, coordinating multidisciplinary academic exchanges, identifying and contacting appropriate collaborators on the European or Danish side, linking Danish and Chinese institutions, reporting on projects to donors, etc. From 2006 to 2011 I was head of the China Unit at DIHR with responsibility for development of the China strategy and oversight of all China activities. Since 2011 chief China advisor at DIHR

In all I have spent more than nine years in China on longer or shorter stays. I speak, write and read English without difficulty, speak and read Chinese good and speak and read French and German at a basic level.
