Born 1970 in Paris (France). In 1994, Stéphanie Lagoutte finished her law studies at the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) specialising in comparative public law (DEA de droit public comparé des Etats européens, Paris I) and comparative criminal law (DEA de droit pénal et politique criminelle des Etats européens, Paris I). Assistant at the University of Paris I (Fundamental Rights and Freedoms), legal consultant for a French publishing house, she has been associated with the Danish Centre for Human Rights between 1995 and 1997, receiving two scholarships from Rektorkollegiet. In 1997, she was granted a scholarship from the Danish Ministry of Research to work on her PhD thesis at the Danish Centre for Human Rights.
She defended her Doctoral dissertation in June 2002 and obtained a PhD degree at the University of Aarhus as well as a Doctoral degree (Doctorat en droit) at the University of Paris I with the highest distinctions. At the Danish Institute for Human Rights, she is working on her research projects, publishing articles, lecturing and teaching both for the Institute and other institutions and participating as legal consultant in some of the Institute's projects. She is also participating in the Danish Iranian Human Rights Dialogue.
