My primary occupation since graduation in 1979 has been research and teaching at university level. Concurrently I have been engaged in consultancy work, writing of text books and teaching material, and I have been active in NGO work on women and development.
For the last six years I have been working as senior researcher and project manager at the Danish Centre for Human Rights, engaged primarily in research and project cooperation, besides pure research involving all kinds of academic activities like arranging seminars (in Asia/China and Denmark), editing books and papers, coordinating multidisciplinary academic exchanges, identifying and contacting appropriate collaborators on the European or Danish side, linking Danish and Chinese institutions, reporting on projects to donors, etc. Furthermore, I have had the economic responsibility for individual projects amounting to 2. mio. DKK a year.
In all I have spent approximately six years in China on longer or shorter stays. I speak, write and read English without difficulty, speak and read Chinese good and speak and read French and German at a basic level.
2002-2003: Researcher and project manager on China projects, Danish Institute of Human Rights (formerly DCHR), Cph.
2000-2003: Researcher with a two year project on ‘Social Rights in China’, based in the Danish Centre for Human Rights (DCHR) and funded jointly by the Danish Development Research Council and the Research Council for the Social Sciences.
1999-2000: Manager of project on protection of suspects and detainees in China, funded by DANIDA. Project consultant in charge of other China activities.
1997-1999: Researcher with a two year project on ‘Social and Economic Rights in China at Danish Centre for Human Rights, funded by the Danish Carlsberg Foundation.
1981-1997: With minor periods of leave, caused by other work or child births, lecturer at Department of History, University of Copenhagen.
1995-1997: Lecturer, Department of Asian Studies, University of Copenhagen.
1996: Three months stay in Beijing and Guangzhou preparing research project on social and economic rights. Teaching course on Institute of Antrophology, University of Copenhagen.
1992-1994: Teaching courses on developing countries at the Technical University of Denmark. Responsible for the social science part of project cooperation with the Technical University, Guangzhou. Two months stay in Guangzhou. Ph.d. thesis approved 1993.
1991: Director at the Center for East and Southeast Asia, an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Copenhagen.
1989-1992: Ph.d. project at the Center for East and Southeast Asia. In that connection three months stay in Beijing, Harbin and Shenyang.
1987-1989: Consultant at China Business Center, a private consultancy bureau in Copenhagen counselling Danish companies and institutions on China, identifying partners, helping with applications for projects, a.s.o.
1986-1990: Teaching modern Mandarin at night school in Copenhagen.
1985-1987: Research project on writing a biography of a famous Chinese woman author, Ding Ling. Three months research stay at Beijing University.
1984: Research assistant at the East Asian Institute, University of Copenhagen.
1979-1984: Various teaching engagements at the University of Copenhagen, and the University Center of Roskilde. Teaching modern Chinese society to sociologists and anthropologists.
1979: Finished BA in history, the University of Copenhagen.
