DIHR appoints new Deputy Director

The Danish Institute for Human Rights has just appointed Charlotte Flindt Pedersen as its new Deputy Director. Ms Flindt Pedersen, who is the current head of the Institute’s Department for Freedoms and Participation, will focus on the Institute's international work.

Charlotte Flindt Pedersen, who has a background in Eastern European Studies from the University of Copenhagen, and is currently the Director of the Institute's Department for Freedoms and Participation will take up her new post as Deputy Director on 1 November 2009.

It is a challenge she is looking forward to.

“I am very much looking forward to drawing on my wide experience of international human rights work as the new Deputy Director. The Institute already enjoys a strong position in the international human rights field, and this means of course that we have a good platform on which to base our future activities,” commented Charlotte Flindt Pedersen.

The Director of the Institute, Dr Jonas Christoffersen, also expressed his satisfaction with the new appointment:

Charlotte Flindt Pedersen, the new Deputy Director at DIHR
”Charlotte Flindt Pedersen is an unusually perceptive and visionary person who brings to this post enormous insight and understanding of the international work of the Institute.  Charlotte’s appointment as Deputy Director will significantly strengthen the Institute’s strategic and practical interventions in our national and international work,” stated Dr Christoffersen.

One of the most important aims of DIHR's international work is to promote human rights and democracy throughout the world. This is achieved by collaborating with independent institutions and civil society organizations as well as by working closely with governments, which are open to dialogue on human rights and which have set a reform process in train.

Most DIHR projects are concentrated in countries which already receive Danish development aid, or are of strategic importance for the development of peace and stability in the region.
