Chile reaches next step in National Action Plan process

Allan Lerberg Jørgensen and Edgardo Riveros signing the MoU
The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Chile. The goal is to develop and implement a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights through an inclusive, multi-stakeholder process.

In the context of Chile’s National Conference on Human Rights and Business in May, 2016, Deputy Foreign Minister, Edgardo Riveros, and the Director of the institute's Human Rights and Development Department, Allan Lerberg Jørgensen, signed a MoU for a period of two years. The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) will support the development and implementation of Chile’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP).

The NAP process started in April last year, and throughout its first phase, DIHR provided support for and advised on the methodology used for a National Baseline Assessment and the development of a Human Rights and Business Country Guide to Chile.

The National Conference on Human Rights and Business marks the start of the second phase of the process. The collaboration will include technical advice and support for dialogues at the national level and in the different regions of Chile with business, trade unions, civil society and indigenous peoples, as well as stakeholder trainings and elaboration of the NAP.
