Reform of Law and State Institutions

Since the mid-nineties, DIHR has been engaged in the reform of state institutions in countries undergoing major social change. Within the programme area of Reform of Law and State Institutions we operate in the area of state legislative and executive powers. We have entered into partnerships with state institutions in those instances where there is a proven commitment to change. International human rights standards, progressive national constitutions or peace agreements provide the set of values shared by us and our state counterparts. The ultimate aim of our support is to enable the state to integrate human rights and the rule of law into legislation and institutions, and to build up its capacity to administer the necessary reforms.
